Itinerary
It is located to the northeast of Cusco city, among Apurimac river and the mountainous rade of Vilcabamba, where the Snows of the Salkantay stands out with a height of 6 271 meters above level sea (20575 ft.). This walk offers us is the posibility of seeing some species that are in danger extinction it is the case of the Andean condor, the puma and the bear of glasses. This area served as refuge and natural strength for the sixteenth movement of Inca resistance of the XVI century, around that area it is conserved the oral tradition that EL DORADO (THE GILDING) is located there, even hidden by the archaeology.
There is another vial net Inca that connected Espíritu Pampas, Hispanic Ñusta, Vilcabamba the Old, Vitcos and Rosas Pampas areas.
DAY 1: CUSCO - CACHORA - CHIKISKA
Very early we will leave Cusco City towards Cachora town whose journey will be of 4 hours. In this town we will know people who will go with us in the whole journey, such us cooks, porters, muleteers. After a small rest we will begin our walk toward the first camp in Chikiska (2900 meters above sea level).
DAY 2: CHIKISKA – SANTA ROSA
This day after breakfast we will begin the walk going down to Apurimac canyon. It’s recommended to get soft the backpack weight to avoid the tiredness and the fatigue because of the excess of heat. We will eat lunch at the beach Rosalinas, after rest we will ascend during 2:30 hrs. until Santa Rosa's camp, place where we will spend the night and will have dinner, in this camp we will enjoy a typical drink "cambray."
DAY 3: SANTA ROSA – CHOQUEQUIRAO
We will get up early to begin our walk early also to take advantage of the morning freshness, because the heat of the sun becomes unbearable at the mid day. Walking will be of 4 hours until Marampata. We will have lunch in this sector, and in the afternoon will arrive to the archaeological group of Choquequirao, we will spend the night in the “Andenerías” of this place.
DAY 4: CHOQUEQUIRAO – CHIKISKA
In the morning we will visit the whole archaeological group and also the museum where some of the pieces found during the excavations are observed, then we will star the return. We will have lunch in Santa Rosa's area. Chikiska will be the camping place.
DÍA 5: CHIKISKA – CACHORA – CUSCO
Early in the morning we will have breakfast then will go up to the first step and will go to Cachora town where somebody will be waiting for us with the transport to return to the Cusco city. Before taking the bus we will eat lunch and we will thank all the people who went with us during the walk. We will arrive to Cusco city at about 6:00 in the evening.
